Every respectable golf instructor will begin lessons with the grip. I always ignored that fact, feeling that changing my grip is irrelevent. I always felt that my grip is fine. Well it turns out that there's a reason for beginning a lesson with the implementation of the proper gripping method. The clubhead strikes the ball. The shaft is connected to the clubhead. The grip is connected to the shaft. The phalanges, metacarpals, and carpals are connected to the grip. The ulna and radius is connected to all this. The humerus is connected to the ulna and radius. The scapula is connected to the humerus. The ribs are connected to the scapula. The spine is connected to the ribs. The hips are connected to the spine. The knee is connected to the hips, the foot is connected to the knee, and the ground is connected to the foot.
Because of these facts, the energy must run from ground to fingers in the proper way, otherwise energy will be lost.
A good strong grip, where the pressure point is at the base of the 1st phalange(index) is essential to a solid golf swing. Jesper Parnevik, who's former nanny is now the wife of Tiger, shows off the proper grip above.
